Maker: Herculaneum  Pattern:Gate of a Mosque built by Hafiz Ramut at Pillibeat
Plate c1820
One of the three famous India patterns made by the Herculaneum factory, derived from different aquatints published in 1796 in Oriental Scenery by Thomas Daniell, but primarily that depicting Gate of a Mosque built by Hafiz Ramut at Pillibeat. An evocative scene with lots of detail printed in quite a deep, luscious blue. Impressed backstamp HERCULANEUM. Glaze is finely crazed and a little minor wear to rim, but in beautiful condition. The glaze has that slightly creamy look of Herculaneum and is a bit patchy on the back.
Dimensions: 25.5 cm / 10 ins
