This is a fabulous jug in the Eglinton Tournament series. The Eglinton Tournament of 1839 was a re-enactment of a medieval joust and revel held at Eglinton Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland. It was organised by the 13th Earl Eglinton as a reaction to the omission of much traditional medieval pageantry from the Coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. Doulton introduced the first of their Eglinton Tournament series ware in 1902, registered the design in 1904, increased the range in 1908 and are believed to have finally withdrawn it in 1928. There are seven scenes in the series, which appears in different colourways on two shapes of jug, rack plate and bowl.
Backstamp: blue printed lion, crown and daisy mark with Royal Doulton England Rd No 408787 and Eglington Tournament printed inside the spout. The backstamp is generally considered to have in usein the early 1930s.

With gilt. Fabulous piece with pierced side handles to the comport and wonderful domed cover with central loop handle and all printed in a rich cobalt blue.

Bowl with Foot c1910
This is such an attractive and unusual bowl. Standing on a solid blue foot the pattern around and to the inside of the bowl is printed in a rather steely blue. There is what appears to a line of crazing in the glaze, which gives the impression of a hairline, however it does not go through, and the bowl "rings" good and true. It may be just a shadow line in the glaze. About a quarter of the foot has been restored, although it has been done well and only noticeable on close inspection.

Sauce Tureen c1911
With gilt. An absolutely gorgeous set of a stand, tureen, delightful ladle and cover, all highlighted with gilt.

The stand has a very small area of thin glaze where the blue appears just a little green. The gilt is worn on the tureen and there is also a little minor wear to the rim. The ladle and cover have minor wear to the gilt. Overall a stunning set.

Printed in a gorgeous deep, softly flown blue, with the same romantic scene of a man fishing in a lake in moutainous scenery appearing three times around the pot. It is a good large size.
Backstamp: Blue printed cartouche with Geneva and Royal Doulton, Burslem, England round the edge.
The glaze is sound and apart from some fritting and a couple of minor nicks on the foot rim, this is in superb condition.
