The Eglinton Tournament of 1839 was a re-enactment of a medieval joust and revel held at Eglinton Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland. It was organised by the 13th Earl Eglinton as a reaction to the omission of much traditional medieval pageantry from the Coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. On the face of the plate it is stated as the Eglington Tournament (with an extra G).

This bowl with boating theme, is from the ewer and bowl set but is a fantastic piece on its own. Beautifully patterned both inside and out, we particularly love the fishing net pattern on the outside. There is just a touch of wear to the rim where it stood in the kiln and some minor surface scratching inside to the base but overall superb.

Royal Doulton. A lovely flow blue jug or pitcher with a pearly glaze. Two gentleman in Cavalier style dress drink a toast to Sweethearts and Wives! The toast is printed on a decorated shield on the front of the jug and on the other side is a serving wench bringing more drink.
There is some blurring to the print of the neck border decoration and minor stress cracks inside the bend of the handle, all would have occurred during manufacture. This jug is in superb condition and makes both a striking display and talking point.
