The Ottoman Empire Series comprises over 20 different scenes of places within the Empire as it existed in the early 19th Century. Almost all the scenes are derived from Lugi Mayer's Views in the Ottoman Dominion published in 1810. The Series is now generally attributed to John & William Ridgway and believed to have been made about 1818 to 1822. This particular view is either previously unrecorded or it has been erroneously recorded as Monumental Arch at Latachia in the past. The pattern is also known as Torch Border Series and Incense Burner Series from the prominent torches and burners forming part of the border design. This is a fabulous platter and the scene is bold and dramatic, beautifully engraved and printed.

Soup Tureen Caius College Cambridge c1825
A magnificent large tureen from the extensive and famous series by John & William Ridgway, depicting many of the colleges and buildings in the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Noted for the superb quality of the design and printing, each scene is framed by a striking border with medallions containing a goat and cherubs, here set off by bold cobalt blue side handles and finial to the cover. The base depicts Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge and the cover Magdalen Tower & Bridge, Oxford.

The tureen is crazed with light discolouration, mainly inside to the base and underneath, and also a hairline of approximately 1¼” to the rim. Underneath the cover is some signs of wear and a hairline parallel to the rim which has been stabilised and does not go through to the top. There is also another hairline affecting the rim and ladle cut out, part of which has lost some glaze and a little body. Also to the ladle cut out is a tiny amateur restoration and a little pitting. Nevertheless, this is a stunning piece.

Meat Dish or Platter Gateway and Tomb at Secundra c1830
This well known series is now usually attributed to John & William Ridgway of Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire, partly because a successor company Cauldon reproduced the series about 1900, seemingly from the original printing plates. The view is of a mausoleum completed in 1613 by Jahangir for his father the Emperor Akbar, who had died in 1605. It still stands today at the modern Sikandra, a suburb of Agra.
Typical blue printed rock and foliage cartouche backstamp with Gateway and Tomb at Secundra. Also an impressed 20.
Overall this platter is in excellent condition. In detail, the glaze is finely crazed, with a very small area of light staining or glaze blemishes, some utensil marks and a stress line from manufacture at the edge of the bowl. At 11 o'clock there has been a knock to the rim creating a short hairline along the edge of the rim, it does not run in and does not affect the face in anyway and there are a couple of other rubs to the rim. All this is only noticeable after close inspection and in reality this is a lovely, bright and clean example from this collected series.

Vegetable Dish with Cover c1885
Covered vegetable dish does not do justice to this delightful covered dish or tureen. It is almost oval, dips like a hip bath, and has two ornate side handles decorated in cobalt and gilt. The lid is also both hipped and curved.
The pattern is an oriental floral design, printed in blue, with enamel colours painted by hand.
In excellent condition, with just a little light staining inside the dish.
Brown printed cartouche with Simlay and Ridgway quiver and bow trademark with Stoke on Trent. There is a raised pad impressed with a registration diamond for the shape, but the details are illegible. Pattern number 318 in red script.

This lid is wonderfully decorative being both hipped and curved. The pattern is an oriental floral design, printed in blue, with enamel colours painted by hand. Cobalt finial with gilt highlights.

William Ridgway. Fabulous stoneware jug with the tale of Tam O Shanter told in relief moulded detail around the body. The design was inspired by Landseer's illustrations to Robert Burn's Tam O'Shanter published in 1830. A similar jug is illustrated on page 161 of Ridgway Porcelains by Geoffrey Godden.

This is an absolutely fabulous basket with ornate embossed pierced detail around the body and delightful embossed flower side handles. Floral border around outside and inside rim with small scenic cartouche inside to the base.

Sauce Tureen c1830
The quality of the potting and decoration is superb and we have tentatively attributed this to Ridgway. It is a stunning set of tureen, cover and stand with fabulous embossed detail highlighted with gilt. In particular there is a delightful flower finial to the cover.

Porcelain with gilt. An absolutely fabulous ink stand on four small feet with well and piercings for quills. The cover has an ornate flower finial.

There is a little wear to the gilt and the base has a tiny nick to the rim. The cover also has a hairline running from the finial to the rim however this is barely visible on the top. Underneath the cover there are also a couple of manufacturing faults. Overall this is a fabulous piece.

An absolutely delightful cup and saucer bat printed in plum and featuring a girl with a bird on her hand on the saucer and on one side of the cup and with a squirrel on a table on the other side. Attributed to Ridgway. A cup of similar shape with high loop handle is illustrated in Plate 713 page 119 of A Compendium of British Cups by Michael Berthoud. No backstamp.
