A lovely stand and one cannot help but feel sorry for the lion when looking at the expression on his face!

It has surface scratching and a little pitting and discolouration to the rim. To the face there are a few blemishes and underneath a little light discolouration. Oh dear, this sounds awful, but it is in fact a lovely piece.

Wash Bowl The Fox and The Sick Lion c1890
Introduced in 1830s the designs for this series were taken from illustrations used in the 1793 edition of the Reverend Samual Croxall's Fables of Aesops.
This is the bowl from the ewer and bowl set, but is a lovely piece on its own. It has light all over crazing and a little minor surface scratching inside to the base, otherwise excellent condition.

A small wash bowl decorated with a scene from this popular series.
Backstamp: typical blue printed cartouche with The Fox and the Sick Lion and Aesop's Fables and impressed Copeland crown mark. Impressed date code for September 1921. Paper lables The Pulver Collection and number 113 and Pulver Exhibition of Blue Printed Pottery, Church House Farm Museum, September 7th 1974. By repute this bowl was also loaned and displayed at the Spode Museum.
The glaze is finely crazed, but otherwise in excellent condition, bright and clean.

Plate The Lion The Bear and The Fox c1835
This attractive plate was made during the Copeland & Garrett period 1833-1847. The Aesops Fables series was introduced in 1830 and the designs are taken from the illustrations in the 1793 edition of the Rev. Samuel Croxall's Fables of Aesops, which was an immensely popular work. Often printed in green as here Spode's Aesops Fables remained in regular production until 1879.
The glaze is crazed, with a little light staining here and there, mainly visible on the back, where there is a faint star crack.

With gilt. Earthenware tray with 5 small bone china cups and saucers, bone china teapot and bone china jug.
Backstamp: On tray impressed Copeland crown and impressed date for 1882. Jugs, cups and saucers have CC Copeland and some with 1/2294 in script
The tray has a tiny speck in the glaze. Teapot has a hairline to the rim, a little wear to the gilt and little discolouration to the finial. Jug is in excellent condition. Cups have the occasional minor blemish and one has a tiny chip underneath.

A very attractive oval dish with embossed basket weave decoration to the decorative wavy rim.

Light all over crazing and there is the occasional minor blemish and a white line within the pattern where the transfer tore when it was applied, however this is fairly minor and does not detract from this lovely dish.

This is such a pretty plate. Octagonal and with an embossed bow and swag decoration to the rim. There is restoration to one corner and the transfer is a little messy otherwise this plate is in excellent condition. Copeland Spode never produced Asiatic Pheasants, although marked pieces turn up rarely. They are believed to have supplied blanks to another unknown factory in the the 1890s for decoration. Impressed Spode Imperial and date for May 1895.

Soap Dish c1890
Small oval dish with everted rim and a wonderful piece in superb condition. Decorated internally and plain white on the outside. These dishes are extremely rare and this one especially so. There is an impressed backstamp Copeland over a crown and date mark for March 189?, although the impressions are poor.
Copeland Spode never produced Asiatic Pheasants, although marked pieces turn up rarely. They are believed to have supplied blanks to another unknown factory in the the 1890s for decoration.

Soap Dish c1890
Small oval dish with everted rim and a wonderful piece in superb condition. Decorated internally and plain white on the outside. These dishes are extremely rare and this one especially so. There is an impressed backstamp Copeland over a crown and date mark for March 1890.
Copeland Spode never produced Asiatic Pheasants, although marked pieces turn up rarely. They are believed to have supplied blanks to another unknown factory in the the 1890s for decoration.
