Vegetable Dish c1815
A shallow lidded dish in this lovely pattern. Rome or Tiber pattern was introduced in 1809 and depicts Trajans Column, St Peters and the Castle and Bridge of St Angelo, with the River Tiber in the foreground.
Backstamp: SPODE and impressed R.
The dish has some wear mainly underneath and elsewhere the occasional minor blemish. The lid has light crazing and under the rim a little wear and a very small chip. All sounds much worse than it looks, this is a lovely dish.

This would once have had a cover but is an attractive piece on its own.
It has a hairline to the side, a couple of under rim chips and a chip to the foot. All sound really awful but actually this is a lovely display piece.

Bowl c1815
Rome or Tiber pattern was introduced in 1809 and depicts Trajans Column, St Peters and the Castle and Bridge of St Angelo, with the River Tiber in the foreground.
Square bowl with indented corners, decorated inside and out. There is some rubbing with minor staining to both the rim and the foot. There are a few old nibbles to the foot. Internally a few minor blemishes to the glaze but overall a bright and clean bowl in excellent condition for its age. A rare survivor!
Blue printed backstamp SPODE in a rectangle, a rare mark used from 1805 to 1815.

Sauce Tureen c1820
There is something about a sauce tureen approaching its 200th birthday that almost defies description - the attention to detail on the central and side handles is just one element, however this one has seen some active service!
It comes complete with stand and cover. The small oval stand is crazed and has absorbed some light staining. It has a couple of tiny under rim nicks otherwise is fine. The tureen is also crazed and again with some light staining although that is noticeable mainly from inside. There is a small star crack to the side and a little wear to the handles. Crazing and light staining again to the cover with some "nibbles" to the inside rim. Inspite of everthing it is still lovely and bright and a delightful display piece. All pieces bear the blue printed Spode mark in a rectangle.

A gorgeous little dish in the shape of a leaf with serrated edges and on the underside the veined appearance of a leaf.

This is gorgeous! A large round stand printed in a soft steely greeny/grey with ornate moulded decoration around the pierced side handles. This would make a stunning stand for a celebration cake or a mountain of profiteroles. The pattern is Rose Wreath, for which the first factory pattern number was 7803 in 1848. Later it was marketed as Piccadilly pattern number D6361

Sponge Dish c1860
This sponge dish is printed in a luscious lilac, which is almost flow in appearance. Rose Wreath design was registered on 9 September 1847 and the factory pattern number was 7803, introduced in 1848.
In beautiful condition, with just a minor glaze blemish inside, this dish has two side handles and the separate drainer that fits inside. The dish is decorated both inside and out and the drainer is unusually fully decorated on both sides. It would be possible to use the drainer upside down and the dish could hold pot-purri. Absolutely delightful and pretty piece.
Printed backstamp in lilac Copeland late Spode, with the diamond lozenge registration mark for 9 September 1847 and the rare impressed mark of the Copeland family crest, which is believed to have been impressed about 1860 by a member of the family on pieces he had made personally.

Cache Pot or Jardiniere c1930
This popular design was registered by Copeland Spode on 19 September 1850. The border is a bold depiction of hops and the central scenes are derived from watercolours by Edward Duncan, who lived in London from 1803-1882. He was a skilful drawer and competent artist, who specialised in lively maritime scenes and peaceful rural views. The drawings used for Rural Scenes appear to have been produced as one series and are perhaps set in the Thames Valley, where a number of Duncan's rural pictures were set. This particular view, repeated on the other side of the jardiniere is of cows ambling along a treelined country lane, with a stone built thatched cottage prominent in the right foreground. All printed in a royal blue.
Copeland Spode produced this same design series under the alternative names of Duncan Scenes, Priscilla Alden (presumably to appeal to the US market) and, apparently as here with English Country Life as a sub-title.
The base of this jardiniere has crazing to the glaze, with light staining both inside and out. However, the body is bright and clean and in excellent condition.

Sauce Tureen c1920s
Delightful lidded small tureen with stand.

The stand has light all over crazing with small minor blemish to the face. The tureen also has light crazing with a tiny tiny horizontal hairline to the rim. The lid has a little very minor pitting to the inner rim underneath otherwise excellent condition. As usual the written description sounds much worse than it looks in real life! Tureen over handles is 7.5" 19.5cm. Stand is 8" x 6" 20cm x 15cm.

Lunch Plate c1944
Seasons was introduced about 1835 and takes its name from the four figures in the border reserves. The centres are large vases of flowers, with the name of a month or season on the vase. There are two versions with the vases set in real landscapes or an Italian Garden. This is November in a landscape that has not been identified.
This plate is virtually as new.
Blue printed backstamp seal mark Copeland, Spode's Seasons, England. Impressed Copeland over crown and date mark for July 1944.

Rhine was originally a Davenport design introduced about 1833 and Spode bought the copper engravings in 1888 after Davenport ceased trading. The date Spode re-introduced the design is not known, but it was probably around 1900. The pattern name was changed to Severn from 1939 and reverted back to Rhine in 1947.
