Maker: Bovey Tracey Pattern: The Gem
A beautiful example of an early 19th century mug, finely potted with moulded ends to the handle. Printed in shades of light and mid blue with a delightful rural scene of two couples dancing round a Maypole and other country people raking and harvesting with sickles. Despite the scenes of agricultural activity everyone appears to be dressed in their Georgian Sunday best! We have come across this pattern before on a toast water jug of similar good quality and it is usually attributed to the Bovey Tracey Pottery Company and is their The Gem pattern. Marked examples are known. There is no backstamp or other marking to this mug.
Apart from a few minor signs of wear this mug is in superb condition and a rare survivor.
Dimensions: 12 cm high 9.5 cm diameter / 4.75 ins high 3.625 ins diameter
