Hicks and Meigh Number 21 Soup Plate c1820

Maker: Hicks and Meigh  Pattern: Number 21

Hicks and Meigh of Shelton, Staffordshire, active 1803 to 1822, were important manufacturers of stone or ironstone china and their quality was generally considered superior to that of Mason and Davenport. They used numbers to identify their patterns and this is number 21, a chinoserie inspired floral design printed in lovely shades of blue on soup plate with a white gadroon rim.
Typical blue printed backstamp of Royal Coat of Arms with Stone China and No 21 below.
Excellent condition, few signs of use, but the glaze is sound and bright.
A similar soup plate is illustrated in Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares by Geoffrey Godden, page 259 plate 201.

Dimensions: 26 cm / 10.25 ins
