Maker: Boyle  Pattern: Antique Scenery Series

Made by Zachariah Boyle of Hanley and Stoke active 1823 to 1850. The Antique Scenery Series depicts around 20 different landscape views, mainly of castles and ecclesiastical buildings. Here is a scene of Melrose Abbey, Roxburghshire, Scotland, founded as a monastery of the Cistercian order in 1136, although it was almost totally rebuilt after 1385, when the buildings were severely damaged in an attack by Richard II of England. The Abbey is believed to be the burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce.
