Maker: Masons Pattern: Two Temples
Bone china with gilt. Attributed to C J Mason of Lane Delph on basis of shape and typical Mason's seal mark. Lovely London shape teapot with ornate gilt design around the body and to the spout and cover. It is a good size teapot and inside is an elaborate gate to stop tea leaves, leaving via the spout.
Backstamp: blue printed Chinese seal mark.
The gilt rims are quite worn and there is some wear and the occasional blemish to the glaze. There is a firing fault under the top spur on the handle, where the two pieces join.
See page 189 plate 1129 A Directory of British Teapots by Berthoud and Maskell for a similar shape teapot by Mason
Dimensions: 1.5 ltr, overall height 14 cm / 2.5 pint, overall height 5.5 ins high
