Maker: Spode  Pattern: Italian

This is an extremely impressive bowl measuring 15.25 inches in diameter and 3 ins high, so quite shallow. It is not a standard Spode shape and we have been told by Spode that as it was hand thrown and turned rather than moulded, it is unlikely more than about 50 were ever made.
On back is the blue printed inscription With W T Lamb & Sons Compliments Xmas 1928. This is believed to be W T Lamb & Sons the architectural brick makers at Billingshurst in Sussex, who in 1928 supplied 4000 specially made bricks to Winston Churchill for him to lay personally at Chartwell. Perhaps Mr Churchill was a recipient of one of these bowls.
The bowl is decorated internally and externally and is in superb condition.
The only maker's backstamp is the top half of a blue printed Copeland late Spode seal mark.
