Maker: Royal Worcester Pattern: Unidentified Pattern
Where to begin to describe this amazing piece! The side handles on the tureen are ornate elephant heads complete with large gilt rimmed ears and tusks! The finial on the cover is more complex! The main part are the heads of two large big billed birds back to back and almost joined together with an oriental clasp. The handle is then joined to the cover by two vicious looking talons! Both tureen and cover in amazing condition with just a little wear to the gilt but this gives a lovely burnt orange edge to it. Printed Worcester marks for 1896 plus the printed retailers mark "Manufactured for William Whiteley Westbourne Grove London".
Dimensions: Tureen neck 28.5 cm x 18.5 cm / Tureen neck 11.25 ins x 7.25 ins
