Unattributed Maker Bridgeless Chinoiserie Dinner Plate c1810

Maker: Unattributed Maker  Pattern: Bridgeless Chinoiserie

This pattern, particularly associated with Davenport and Minton, was in fact made by several makers and is also known as Hermit and Man in Doorway. This plate has a distinctive version of the design, but the maker has not been identified. This pattern is discussed in Minton Printed Pottery by Geoffrey Priestman and a similar plate is ilustrated on page 53, plate 4.11.
On the rim there is a tiny chip at 11 o'clock and a few rubs and nicks, plus a small glazing fault on the border. Just in the bowl is a short firing crack, which occurred during manufacture. All really minor and a bright and clean plate in good condition.
No maker's backstamp.
Provenance: The personal collection of Gresham Copeland, passing by descent to his son Robert Copeland. Collection identification label on back AGC 88.
This plate is illustrated in Spode's Willow Pattern by Robert Copeland page 157, plate 27, where it is attributed to Davenport.

Dimensions: 24.5 cm / 9.75 ins
