Lovely little tureen with lion head side handles, made by John Rogers and Son of Dale Hall, Longport, Staffordshire active 1815 to 1841. The scene depicts the Gate leading to a Musjed at Chunar Ghur and is based on an engraving in Oriental Scenery by Thomas Daniell published in 1797. Chunar or Chunarghur is a town and ancient fortress in the district of Mirzapur in the United Provinces of India, situated on the south bank of the River Ganges.
Backstamp: Impressed Rogers.
Light all over crazing with just a little light discolouration inside and a possible hairline inside which does not appear to go through. Overall a very pretty piece.
