Maker: Spode  Pattern: Willow

A beautiful early example of Spode's Willow pattern printed in a gorgeous soft blue, with luscious pearly glaze.
Impressed backstamp SPODE, the earlier version sans-serif.
The glaze is finely crazed and there are a couple of tiny nicks on the rim. Inside the bowl there are a couple of minor glazing defects and a surplous dot of blue ink and finally to confirm that even Spode were not perfect the base of the dish is domed, having risen slightly in firing. Ignore the words though as this is a plate that will give much pleasure for many years to come.
