Maker: Woods  Pattern: Mayfair blue with colour

A pretty early example of this popular Woods pattern, with blue transfer printed design of Asiatic Pheasant in floral setting, hand painted colours of brown, green, yellow and mauve, with brown and blue gadroon rim.
There is a short stress crack affecting the join of the finial to the lid. It is barely noticeable on the outside and appears to have occurred during manufacture. Otherwise the set is virtually as new.
Typical blue printed Woods backstamp, impressed date mark for 1919 and pattern number 1685 in script.
It is rare to find a complete sauce tureen from the earliest days of this design.
