Maker: Harvey Pattern: Birds and Flowers
Originally one of the major components of a grand dessert service this attractive oval comport stands on a decorated splay foot. Items in this design have been recorded marked with HARVEY impressed, although there is no maker's backstamp on this piece. There was a sequence of various Harvey partnerships at Longton, Staffordshire and this piece dates from the C & J Harvey period 1818-1827. Strong cobalt glaze giving overall a slightly grey look, with the design printed in vibrant blues. The glaze is finely crazed with a few small areas of associated light staining in the bowl, otherwise excellent condition.
