Maker: Unattributed Maker Pattern: The Beemaster
The Beemaster remains one of the most sought after early designs. This delightful scene is derived from a watercolour Swarm of Bees, Autumn by George Robertson 1742-88, which hangs today in the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford. The maker of The Beemaster is yet to be identified, although Adams has been suggested.
Small dessert bowls are rare in any early 19th Century design and this is quite charming. There are minor signs of wear and rubs to the rim, with a few tiny nicks or glaze flakes and a short hairline running in from the rim. The glaze is crazed, with some associated light staining, whch is mainly confined to the back. The face is bright. Overall good condition.
No makers mark.
