Maker: Minton  Pattern: Hermit

This is an early example of this attractive chinoiserie pattern, which is derived from an original design on Chinese porcelain. Better known as Chinoiserie Bridgeless and sometimes called Man in Doorway, it was designated Hermit by Minton. We have attributed this platter to Minton on the basis of the details of the design and the presence of a tiny blue printed crown symbol on the back, which is recorded as a potter's mark on Minton wares in this design.
Backstamp: Tiny blue printed crown.
Crazed with some light staining here and there, but the glaze is still pearly bright and shines almost like new. Overall excellent condition.
