Maker: Spode Pattern: Frog colour
Stunning and massive are two words that spring to mind to describe this huge tree and well meat dish or platter of Spode Stone China in Frog design, here in variant pattern number 3248. Blue printed pattern and hand enamelled in deep reds and blues, with copious gilt decoration and terracotta rim.
This pattern was specially commissioned from Spode by King George IV and was first used at his Coronation Banquet on 19 July 1821.
Backstamp: Copeland late Spode, which suggests that this was made as a matching piece for an earlier service, plus pattern number 3248 in red script.
A few signs of wear, but in superb condition.
Dimensions: 61 x 46 cm / 24 x 18.25 ins
