Unattributed Maker Willow blue with colour Jar 'Vinegar Prestonpan c1850

Maker: Unattributed Maker  Pattern: Willow blue with colour

One part of a condiment set, usually attributed to one of the potteries at Prestonpan in Scotland, but also produced elsewhere and later versions were made. This chappie is an original from the 19th Century and he has had a life!
He has a removable hat, which has been in three bits and restuck, with a couple of minor losses where the parts join. Two small areas at the bottom of the hat are missing, but these are largely invisible when it is place. Two small chips to the rim of his head, at the rear. Some minor flaking to the paint on his jacket and shoes. The base has been in four or fives bits and restuck. There is a chip in the left hand side of the skirt of the base visible in the photograph and a large area missing from the skirt at the back, about 1 ½” x ¾”, and a chip to the bottom rim.
Sitting on the right height shelf he could look almost perfect!
No maker's backstamp.

Dimensions: 17 cm high / 6.75 ins high
